Bring your story to life with rich media

- Ever wonder how something as simple as a PowerPoint deck can help you bring your story to life? Let's take a look. This deck is a perfect example of a rich media asset. So what is that? Rich media is visual content, such as videos, photos, presentations, and even websites that show examples of your work and help your audience visually connect into what you do. It's one thing to tell people about the work you do. But it's quite another to bring your work to life. This is where rich media comes in. The most common question I always get asked is which profile sections should I add rich media to? Ultimately, it's your profile. So you get to decide what makes the most sense for you. I usually recommend your Summary and Work Experience sections as important places to add rich media to help tell the story of your career journey. Let's look at an example with my profile. Here's my About section, where you can see the PowerPoint slide deck that I added to my Summary. If I click into the pencil, and I click into the pencil on my rich media asset, you'll see that I customized the Title and the Description for my asset to reflect the summary deck I added so that others can get to know me. Adding rich media is easier than you think. Let's look at another example. This time, we're going to add media to the Experience section. Tariq is an executive chef and owns his own restaurant. So how could he add rich media to help his professional community understand what he does? He's got some incredible behind-the-scenes pictures of his staff in action. So how would he add this? First, Tariq will scroll down to his Experience section. Next, he'll click the pencil to edit. He'll scroll down till he sees Media and he'll simply click the Upload button. He'll select his photo from his desktop folder on his computer. And then he'll add in a title and a quick description. He'll click Apply and save it. Now that rich media asset will appear in his Experience section of his profile. For some of us, adding rich media is easy. For others, it may be more challenging, based on the nature of your work and what you're allowed to share publicly. So here's a quick tip. Many times your company will have brand assets that you can share publicly. A great way to customize a company rich media asset is to edit the description and add a one or two-liner about why you selected that content and how it fits with your overall professional story. So check in with your marketing team and see what company media assets you can leverage to add to your profile. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. So bring the work you do to life by adding photos, videos, and presentations to your profile to connect your community into your experience. I'm excited to see what you add.
