Bridge islands of agility
- Many companies are still organized in a way that makes it really challenging to embrace an agile mindset. A lot of them are organized into clearly defined functional areas. They still think about delivering projects instead of developing products. So these organizations usually have a powerful project management office or PMO. These organizations usually realize that they're not going to be able to quickly rewire the entire company. So what they do instead is create a bunch of agile pilot programs. The executives and directors identify good places to spin up agile teams, but these teams still exist within the larger organization. So even if your agile team is cross-functional, everyone else still operates in their functional areas.
