- It's hard to believe that Stoicism , a philosophy that was developed in the third century BCE in ancient Athens, could have such practical applicable ideas, for how we can live better lives, and make better decisions today. Many people refer to what the Stoics created, as an operating system for life. For the purposes of making better decisions under stress, Let's borrow some lessons from the Stoics. The first lesson is to see things as they really are, to focus on the objectivity of thought. Think about striving to control what you can control, and accept not stress over what you can't. There are three steps to this. The first thing is to do everything in your control, to make a wise decision.
