- There's a simple reason why mindfulness of the body translates directly into more mindfulness in your life. Your body is always living in the present moment, right here and right now. When you're lost in thought, or you're in a form of virtual reality, and you lose touch with what's actually happening in the present, this habit of remembering some recent interaction at work or evaluating plans and not having that truly gratifying sense of being relaxed and settled in your life as it is, leaves an undercurrent of unease and dissatisfaction. I remember walking through the woods after being introduced to mindful awareness of the body. It was late spring.
