- If you've ever been blindfolded you may have found the experience both scary, and exciting at the same time. Although you have to depend on other senses to assess your surroundings like using your hands to help guide you, you also have a level of anticipation about what waits for you when you take the blindfold off. And hopefully it's something that is a pleasant surprise. Well, that's the same concept behind blind recruiting. Which is when you eliminate personal identifiable information from candidates resumes and applications. The Toronto symphony first used this method over 30 years ago for recruiting new musicians to the orchestra. They were an all white male orchestra, when they decided to place a curtain between those auditioning and the decision-makers. They could only assess the candidates based on their musical talent.
