- [Narrator] With Smartsheet, a lot of common project management activities require customization or the use of a template. If you're an experienced project manager, it's a question of whether you want to invest your time but when you're new to project management, you might not know what you need. For example, Smartsheet doesn't have built in base lining capability, you have to build it yourself. For each measurement you want to baseline like duration start date, cost, and so on, you'd have to create a baseline field, actual field, variance field, and others. So here I've added some columns to this sheet for my flavored vinegar project. I have planned cost, actual cost and cost variance. Also, if you double click a cell within the cost variance column, you can see that I had to create a formula to actually calculate the cost variance.
