- In the virtual workplace we're being seen through the computer, through our phone. And one advantage is that we can actually see what we look like to the other person. That can be completely intimidating to many people, but could also be empowering to others that can use that as an opportunity to figure out and shape the presence that they want to have in a virtual meeting. Now, I don't believe that we all need to dress a certain way or project ourselves in a certain profile to be influential. In fact, I think the vulnerabilities of working from home and people having a window into what your world is like outside of the workplace, can really bring us closer together. At the same time, I know that we're still being judged and I know that others are watching our mannerisms, how we present ourselves and use that to drive their first impressions of our capabilities and even our competence.
