- [Instructor] This tool is going to apply mostly to fiction writers. Oftentimes, when we're writing fiction, we get stuck because we don't know enough about the story we're trying to tell. This can feel like a lack of inspiration or motivation or even a dead end, but really, it's just a lack of knowledge. This specific problem happened to me when I was writing my young adult comedy A Week of Mondays. It's about a girl whose boyfriend breaks up with her on the worst Monday of her life, and then she wakes up the next morning to find she's reliving the exact same day and the exact same breakup over and over again. It's sort of like a Groundhog Day for teens. The character decides to use her predicament to try to save her relationship and keep her boyfriend from breaking up with her. Great, cool premise. I was excited to write it, but when I got to about the third Monday in the book, I started to get that niggling feeling that something wasn't working. The story wasn't feeling right…
