- Have you ever interviewed someone and the exact thing they described actually happened while they are on the job? If so, you are not alone. This is why behavioral interviewing is my favorite type of interviewing. You can gain so much information about an applicant's past behaviors while thinking about how that might play positively or negatively on your team. The applicant is asked to remember a past situation and how they handled it. This has been shown and studied over and over again that past behavior is indicative of future behavior. The STAR method is a structured interview method to get a job candidate to tell a story about a past situation or behavior to see if that aligns to what the company is looking for. Now the S refers to a past situation. The T refers to a specific task that needs to be accomplished. The A refers to the action that the job candidate took.
