Balancing objectives

- For a matrix to work properly, objectives need to be balanced by the two departments that that individual reports to. Conflict in the objectives puts the individual in a bad position. They can't deliver on either set of objectives or they're going to be forced to disappoint one leader or the other. Good goal and objective setting requires both leaders to balance the objectives between them so the team member can be successful. Let's say we're dealing with a call center. At 97% staffing, the call center runs well. Operations wants to boost to 98% staffing. Now the country manager where the call center is located wants to save three million dollars. At 98% staffing, that would cost an extra million dollars. But at 95%, they could save two million dollars. What's the right call here? Do you drop staffing to save money?
