- BET is really changing the world because it's not a simple line. It's not a straight line of this is one thing, BET is this one thing. I think one thing that BET really shows, it shows to ourselves and it shows to the world, is that African Americans are not monolithic. There's nothing simple about our lives. It's complex, it's layered. It's fun, it's sad, it's painful, it's incredible, it has a great beat. But then it can still be tough, and not easy, so I think the one thing that BET does better than anyone else, and really is the only one that does it, is really looks at the full complexity of who we are, looks at the complexity of our men, looks at the complexity of our women, looks at the complexity of our young people, looks at the complexity of our older people. And that is what we need to have a better picture of ourselves, like we shouldn't look in the mirror and only see one version of ourselves. I want…
