Awkward vs. unacceptable
- Before we dive into the world of awkward, let's clarify the difference between awkward and unacceptable. Awkward moments happen to everyone. They're pretty unavoidable. Like telling your boss they've made a mistake, or having to tell your co-worker they have bad breath just before you walk into a client meeting. Awkward moments are typically one-off occurrences, and they're not caused by bad intent. Unacceptable behavior is different. Unacceptable behavior includes things like discrimination, sexual harassment, and bullying. There's a firm line in the sand, and this behavior is often illegal. If you suspect your situation to be unacceptable, instead of just a little awkward, talk to your boss and HR about your concerns and how to best remedy the situation.
