These behaviors help participants learn more about the issue and develop strategies for resolving it. It's just as important to avoid using destructive behaviors during a conflict. In this video, we'll describe destructive behaviors, review why they complicate conflict management, and create a plan for avoiding their use. First, destructive behaviors stem from our fight or flight survival instincts. The fight response finds expression in behaviors like trying to defeat the others, showing anger, demeaning others, and getting even. The flight response shows up in avoidance behaviors and in situations where we give in to others. The destructive behaviors are typically driven by negative emotions.
