- If you drive your personal car for business purposes, you probably know that you can claim mileage deductions on your taxes at the end of they year. Now to do this, the IRS requires you keep detailed records of your mileage for each business trip you take. Now probably the most difficult aspect of this is just remembering to do so. Some people will reset the odometer in their car each time they get in, other people will keep a notebook in their car, so they can jot down their mileage, and other vehicle related expenses. Some people use the Note app on their smart phone to keep records. But again you have to remember to do this because each time you forget to track your mileage, you're basically leaving money on the table.
