- When it comes to developing stronger relationships with your younger manager and colleagues, less is more. While we definitely have a lot of valuable ideas and experiences to share, taking a slightly more hands-off attitude will work better. Give your colleagues the space to initiate contact and seek you out. I understand that you want to reach out and show that you're open to connecting. This is great, and it's what your younger colleagues want as well, but there's a bit of a dance that I suggest you do to make this process much more successful. Listening skills are important. Follow management guru Stephen Covey's great advice, "Seek first to understand, then to be understood." In your initial dealings with younger team members get to know them by listening to them first.
