- Have you ever felt yourself daydreaming when you're supposed to be concentrating? Or have you seen your students or users do the same? It's hard to pay attention for long because you need a lot of brain resources to prevent distractions. Whilst we need to focus, we also need to be distracted and can't turn off that ability, otherwise we'd be in danger from fast cars, falling objects, and overfocused attention, none of which are good for you in the long term. Long before neuroscience was invented, people already knew attention was the key to memory. Despite all the stories about our attention span being shorter now than ever before, your attention span is more strongly related to your tendency as an individual and the task in hand.
