- Before you quit your job and take another one, I recommend you assess the pros and cons of the new opportunity. Open a new document and draw a vertical line down the center. On one side, write the pros, and on the other side, list the cons. Unless you live in a movie, every job has its positives and negatives, and by taking another job, you may be giving up some good things in your current one. No job is perfect. Here are a couple of things to remember. First, look at the whole package you're being offered, including salary, benefits, medical and dental, 401k plans and do they match employee contributions? Potential for raises, retirement plan, pension, bonuses and promotions, the commute, learning opportunities, how working there will look on your resume, how stable the company is.
