Assessing success and building culture

- One of the classic change models is Kurt Lewin's Unfreeze-Change-Refreeze model. It's been around for a long time but still represents what happens in change pretty well. The last phase of this model is refreeze. The idea is that you have to unfreeze what's currently happening showing why we need to change, create a sense of urgency, et cetera, then you create the change. But to really create lasting change, you must institutionalize those changes. They must be integrated into the organizational culture, so the change remains part of the organization. If you want to make sure that your change lasts, there are a few key things you can do. Before you refreeze, before you seek to institutionalize the change, you must make sure the change was successful.
