Applying lean in projects

- One common approach to quality management is a system called Lean. Lean is really a sort of philosophy that was created by Toyota. So you'll often hear it called the Toyota Production System. And many of the key terms are Japanese words. So why is Lean important for project managers? Well, first you might end up leading projects that are focused on implementing Lean. Second, you can use Lean to eliminate waste from any project and third, you can use Lean to streamline your own project management processes. The goal of Lean is to have everyone on the team constantly looking for ways to improve the efficiency of a process by eliminating waste. The first thing we do is we go to the place where a process is performed, this is called the Gemba. Then we run a workshop called a Kaizen where we redesign a process to make it more efficient.
