- Hey everyone, welcome back to the Writer's Room. Unfortunately, for this session, we're here to conduct some not-so-fun business. We're here to tackle the All Is Lost, which, as you remember, is always a downer beat, where things always seem lost for the hero. This is a single-scene beat that comes about 75% of the way through your novel. And the following things are happening to our hero. They are hitting rock bottom, a rock bottom that feels like another catalyst. The internal bad guys and external bad guys, if you have them, are at fault for this rock bottom. They usually have lost something important to them, and they experience a whiff of death. So, from my novel roadmap, at the All Is Lost, I'm going to have Brooklyn quit the debate team. I know that's not something that's happening to her, but I want her to quit the debate team sort of at the end of the Bad Guys Close In. This is in response to the kiss that happened.
