- Let's take a look at some examples of this powerful All Is Lost beat and see if we can identify the whiffs of death that will eventually lead these heroes toward their ultimate transformations. In 'The Hunger Games', both the book and the movie, Rue dies at the All Is Lost. This whiff of death is a little bit obvious. It's the death of a person, the death of an ally, but mostly it's this death that will eventually fuel the fire growing inside of Katniss and help her transform into the Capitol-defying rebel she is meant to be, which is also her theme. In 'Legally Blonde', even though Elle Woods has made great strides in the bad guys close in, to prove her worth to her classmates at Harvard, she still hasn't proven it to herself yet.
