- So the tricky part about setting priorities as a leader is that you can't do it in isolation. If you try to just sit in a room by yourself and come up with a list, you're going to be in trouble. That's because you may think something's important, but that doesn't mean it's the right decision for the company. Of course, you're opinion matters. But as a manager, you also need to serve as a translator who bridges the gap between senior leadership and the people you supervise. You also need to understand what their priorities are. Assimilate that information and create an actionable plan to make it happen. If you ignore what's important to senior leadership, you probably won't be in your job long.
