Adopt a service mentality

- No discussion of the social side of work would be complete without mentioning the importance of a service mentality. The idea is simple. The organization is more than just you. The vocation is not just you. The industry is way bigger than you and your colleagues. Each of us has an obligation to give back by helping each of these higher-level groups move forward. There are plenty of reasons you should care about this way of thinking. First, giving back and helping others are simply the right things to do. Next, the more you help others, the more you maintain a productive sense of empathy and an appreciation for the bigger picture. That makes you interesting to your colleagues and makes you a better decision-maker. Finally, being service-minded directly helps you.
