Add text to shapes

- [Instructor] You can add text to almost any Visio shape. That includes shapes from one of the Visio stencils as well as shapes you create. For example, right-click anywhere on the drawing page to open the mini toolbar and select either the Rectangle or the Ellipse tool and draw a shape. While the shape is still selected, start typing. When you're finished, press the Escape key or click anywhere outside the shape to leave edit mode. In Excel, function key F2 opens a cell for text edit and it serves the same purpose for shapes in Visio. To see how it works, drag a shape onto the page from one of the stencils. This happens to be a network diagram, but any diagram will do. With the shape selected, press F2 and enter text. When you're finished, use F2 again, or use one of the previously mentioned techniques to stop editing. One dimensional shapes can also contain text. Use a dynamic Connector to link the two shapes on the page, and then type text. In some diagrams you might encounter shapes that don't allow text entry or editing, but those are the exception.
