- Anyone who leads an organization, or an organizational effort, will tell you that things are moving faster, and the problems we all face are more complex. The military coined the term VUCA, which stands for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. And this applies as much to the private and public sectors as anywhere else. To thrive in this VUCA environment, leaders must be Adaptive and Responsive to the rapid and ever changing world. This starts by listening to the important feedback given to us that will lead us, to the effect we hope to have through our organizational efforts. I'm Derek Cabrera, and I'm happy to share the central tenants of adaptive leadership that I teach at Cornell University, and to organizations around the world. As a systems leader, it's your job to create an organization that can adapt to the challenges it faces every day. In this course, I'll cover how you can become a leader who deeply understands how you are thinking through things, enabling your team to tackle any problem, issue, or situation to yield insight into innovative solutions for meaningful impact and change. Systems Thinking means that you seek to understand the systems around you. To go beyond simply reacting to events as they happen. And instead look at how the world actually works. And also how we think about it. In today's fast changing competitive VUCA world, simply seeking efficiencies, is not going to be enough. So we'll teach you, the VMCL framework for creating adaptive organizations, that are quick and agile in their response to changes in the market. In summary, you'll want to be brutally honest, about how your starting point is. Have clarity on your ending point, your vision and your goals, and be flexible and adaptive in how you get your team there. And then, you can have a greater effect on the outcomes you seek. So join me on this course, to explore the natural functions found in any organization, and how you can leverage them, to your advantage in an ever changing world.
