- Keeping your office safe and uncluttered is important for your health, your emotional state, and your productivity. Falls are one of the most common hazards in the office environment, from obstructed walkways or unruly cords. Let's talk about how to keep cords under control and out of sight, as well as some of the hazards in the office. The first step in creating a safe office is making sure your walkways are open and unobstructed. Make sure to close drawers and cabinets when you're finished with them. Don't leave items in a walkway. And leave enough space to comfortably walk between objects. The Americans with Disabilities Act standard of 36 inches is a good measurement to use. In addition to obstructions, make sure there's no loose carpeting or rugs that may slip or have high edges. If you use a rug, choose the non-slip, low edge style.
