- Have you ever been on a video call where someone's making noise or talking in the background, and the whole group can hear them? It can be quite disruptive to the meeting and embarrassing to the person making the racket. Video meetings are a lot like in-person meetings when it comes to etiquette. Your tone of voice and body language still tell much of the story. So let's go over some of the most common etiquette specific to both video and audio calls. Even though you're not face-to-face, make sure to turn your phone to silent. It's distracting when a ring, alert, or vibration is heard on a call. Even if the person can't see you, distractions like texting or checking email can be heard in your voice. Your response time is slower, the tone of your voice changes, and you can't be as engaged.
