- Leaders play an important role in building and sustaining a system that develops employees, management, and the organization itself. First, a leader must be a strategist and partner to HR. Your strategic plan should weave its way through every aspect of the organization, including the performance management system. Let's say an organization wishes to decreases expenses in order to increase profit margin. As leadership goes over the data they find turnover is high and decide they must find a way to increase employee retention to help with this goal of decreasing expenses. This is tied to performance management. And now you and the leader are partnered up as you work on this strategy together. Leaders must also be communicators. I cannot stress how important communication is to any initiative in any organization.
