- Renowned basketball coach, John Wooden, once said, "The true test of a man's character is what he does "when no one is watching." One of my favorite aspects of working in the branding and positioning field, is that everything we do, from corporate marketing to reputation management, stems from our values. Solid company, product, and personal brands rest on a foundation of a clear set of compelling values that anchors all of our behavior, messaging, and decision-making. So what do I mean by values? Well values are the guides by which we live our lives and run our business. For instance, if your values are anchored in honesty and trustworthiness, then I expect to get answers to my questions and find your managers accessible. If your company promotes values of community service and inclusiveness, then I expect to find that your company and its employees are involved in charity work, and tying your success to how you support a cause that you're passionate about.
