Your leader's perspective

- To help our leaders, we need to understand their perspective as they see it. You need to get the best understanding you can about how your leader sees their past, present, and future. To do it, you need to ask questions. But don't do it mechanically, following a pre-set order, pushing them through a checklist. Instead, know the questions you eventually want to explore, then ask them in an order that flows naturally. That inspires confidence that you know what you're doing. Have a list, but don't follow the list. Follow your leader and flow to the best next question. In what follows I'll cover one, specific questions to ask and areas to explore. And two, I'll show how one question might flow naturally to another. An easy place to begin is with the leader's current role. Questions like, what's your role in the organization these days?
