- How you interact and work with your manager could oftentimes make or break your job performance. Even though you may not speak with your manager daily, your biggest supporter or impediment could be your sales manager. Working with your manager to develop the right rapport and understand the job requirements are critical to learn quickly. My first sales manager gave me advice of how best to work with him. He said, "I want you knowing your customers' needs, "providing them solutions, "selling, "closing sales, and exceeding your sales budget." He told me that his job was to enable me to do my failed sales work without obstacles. However, in order for him to really support me, I had to help him by following a checklist of responsibilities. These tasks weren't difficult, but if not completed properly, it would make his job harder. In essence, he was saying, "You help me so that I can help you."
