Where product ideas come from

- While you've probably heard someone say ideas are a dime a dozen, most great products you use and love came from a great idea. They often come from a painful problem someone is experiencing. Many founders were simply scratching their own itch and came to find out that there were a lot of other people with that itch, too. Here's an example. Drew Houston began building Dropbox in 2006 while riding a bus from Boston to New York. He had originally planned to do some work on his laptop during the bus ride, but realized he didn't have his USB memory drive. He immediately began building a system to store his own files over the internet. Product ideas can come from anywhere, both internal and external to your company. Maybe your sales team is getting asked the same question over and over again about a piece of functionality, or your customer service team may be fielding support calls about the same issue, and they have an idea for solving it.
