Join Brenda Bailey-Hughes for an in-depth discussion in this video What types of things do you put off?, part of Overcoming Procrastination.
What types of things do you tend to put off? I'm going to ask you to make a list of those things. Because seeing the concreteness of a list can be really insightful to you as you're trying to overcome your procrastination habit. So, get your paper and pencil and start that list of what do I put off. Now, while you're doing that, I want to share a story of a fellow procrastinator, Sam, who also went through this exercise of making his list of things he tended to put off. We realized that on his list he had things like sending holiday cards, returning emails, sending thank you notes, writing reports.
Pretty quickly we started to realize anything related to writing was what Sam was putting off. How's your list coming along? If you're stuck, you might find it helpful to write a list of things you never put off. What are those tasks that you're just jumping on every day? Now compare and contrast the list. It might help you to start understanding your procrastination habit.
