What are fractions?
- In this movie, I'll explain how to work with fractions. Which are just ways to show how much of a whole there is. Just like decimals. So really easy example of a fraction, 1/2. So 1/2 is just one half of one. So the 1 in 1/2 is what we call the numerator of the fraction, and the bottom part of the fraction, the 2, is what we call the denominator of the fraction. The bar in the fraction is a symbol that just means to divide. Normally when we use fractions, we're not gonna actually divide the two numbers. But it'll come in handy later. So a couple things I wanna show you how to do with fractions. The first thing is how to reduce fractions. So let's say we have the fraction 4/8. If you suspect you might be able to reduce a fraction, what you wanna think to yourself is, "Can I find a number that will divide evenly "into the top of the fraction "and into the bottom of the fraction?" So let's think about it. For 4/8, 2 could go into 4 and 8, and even better, to find a bigger number, 4…
