What is executive coaching?

- When the word coach was first used in the English language, it wasn't about a person, but a thing. A coach was a horse-drawn carriage. It was a vehicle, a vehicle with a purpose to transport people more effectively and rapidly than ever before from where they were to where they wanted to be. Coaches were vehicles, and coaches are still vehicles in a new way, to help leaders lead themselves and others from where they are to someplace even better. Coaches help leaders along their road to improvement. And in some ways, the route is well-known. In one sense, executive coaching is a process. Coaches work intensively with individual leaders over many months to help them choose their most important areas to improve, gain support from their key stakeholders, take action on the best ways to make progress, measure progress to ensure they achieve real change, and equip leaders to sustain their improvements. But in another sense, executive coaching is much more than a process. It's a privilege.…
