Join Haydn Thomas for an in-depth discussion in this video What is business analysis?, part of Insights from a Business Analyst.
Business analysis is actually a skill set and a mind set, rather than a role. What I find with business analysis, it's about organizations wanting to make better decisions. What I found throughout the world is that people go out of their way to find solutions, but sometimes limit those solutions because they haven't actually gathered everything that they're needing to really determine if it is the right approach. So, business analysis is really speaking to people, working out what they want, trying to make sure that we actually achieve these things called requirements and capture those requirements and verify them.
Then we'll use that as the basis to work out what are the different solutions that can provide us with the outcomes we're looking for. So, yeah, business analysis is a great role to be able to find out what they're up to, work out how you can help them, and more importantly is using the tools and techniques that can be used everything from a data level all the way through to a strategic analysis. It's a great broad spectrum, so yeah, very much more a skill set rather than a role.
