- Let me ask you this, how excited are you about your employee handbook? Fair enough. (laughs) Of course, not all employee handbooks are created equal. Many are old and out of date, something which is dangerous in an environment with constantly changing employment laws. Then there are those handbooks that are compliant, but boring at best, and they're a prime example of why HR gets a bad rep. And then there are those rare handbooks that are compliant, but also go beyond what is legally required to help define and demonstrate great company culture.
And that's where I want you to be with your handbook. Welcome, I'm Don Phin, I've been an employment lawyer for more than 30 years. Not only have I helped create hundreds of employee handbooks over that time, I've also helped build the online templates for the 50 state employee handbook maker found on Think HR. As a result, I know a lot about the legal provisions you can and can't put in an employee handbook. In this LinkedIn Learning course, I'll discuss the legal reasons why we have handbooks, the importance of defining policies and procedures, and above all, the opportunity that exists to create a handbook that supports the company's vision, mission, values, and goals.
