Welcome

- To paraphrase Richard Branson, founder of Virgin. Going at it alone is an admirable but fool hardy and highly flat approach to taking on the world. Mentors can help you. Maybe you've already bought into this idea as so many companies do have formal mentoring programs. In fact, approximately 70% of Fortune 500 companies have some type of mentoring program. So if you are just getting started with designing a mentoring program, welcome to the club. I'm Ellen Ensher. I'm a business professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and I've co-authored the book. Power Mentoring. In this course, I will take you on a guided tour of mentoring programs. I will show you how to conduct a preprogram needs assessment. Then I'll walk you through what infrastructure and support is needed and how to choose the right purchase spins for your mentoring program. Next, I'll cover training and ongoing support, and finally I'll share ways to evaluate your program. Rest assured, you don't need a degree in human resources and you can be successful. If this is your first time designing a mentoring program, and if you are here to simply make a good mentoring program even better. You've come to the right place. By the end of the course, you should feel comfortable designing a formal mentoring program that fits your organization goals and budget.
