Learn how to speak to the media. Find out what to expect with journalists and how to tailor and deliver your message to specific media channels and audiences.
- Welcome to media training. I'm Deirdre Breakenridge and I've been teaching, consulting, and writing about public relations for over 25 years. There's no question, the media landscape has changed drastically. There are multiple channels emerging daily, new relationships to manage, and whatever you say can end up in print, online, and through social media, which can all be shared virally to your benefit or your demise. But you don't have to feel anxious or apprehensive about interviewing.
This media training course will help you develop and deliver your key messages so that they're memorable with all types of media and you come across as a credible and trustworthy expert. We're going to talk about selecting the appropriate spokesperson and enhancing your interviews with stories, stats, and solid sound bites that will resonate with your intended audience. At the same time, we'll cover those questions that you don't want to be asked and what you can do to know your journalist so that you're ready for softball and hardball interviews.
Then at the end of the course, you'll put your media training to the test by watching a mock interview and together we'll identify techniques you'll want to use and the pitfalls you'll want to avoid. Let's get started.
Watch the mock interview at the end of the course and see Deirdre's techniques and strategies in action.
