Like most people you'd probably begin by asking your friends and relatives if they had any recommendations and eventually you'd get a referral or an introduction. This is an example of a social network and how we regularly use them. Basically a social network is the group of people around you who you know both personally and professionally, and to a degree it can be extended to the people in their networks. They're usually the first person that you go to when you need answers. Today most of us have extended our social networks by using social media. LinkedIn and Facebook are two major public global social media networks. They were founded in 2002 and 2004, respectively.
