Using nonverbal humor
- Humor in the workplace does not always need to be spoken. You can add humor and positively affect the workplace environment without saying a word. One way to do that is by showing your sense of humor in subtle ways. A humorous necktie or scarf pin gives people who interact with you the gift of a smile. Pay attention to how you decorate your office or workspace. What you choose to exhibit will give people who pass by an idea of what you find humorous. This also offers an invitation to others to comment on what you've displayed and to share their own humor. This is a way for you to find out who in the workplace likes the kind of humor you do. You are lightening up the atmosphere without saying a word. Keep in mind that what you choose to display must follow within what's acceptable within your organization.
