Use social media for referrals
- LinkedIn is the perfect place to identify prospects, discover how you're connected, find potential referral sources and reach out to them. You may be thinking that LinkedIn is also the perfect place to ask for referrals. It's not. LinkedIn is the perfect place to do your research and see how you're connected. Then you either have a conversation on the phone or in person. This is your opportunity to strengthen the relationship with your referral source and get inside information that's not on their LinkedIn profile. If there's one piece of advice I could give, it's this. Do not ask for referrals on social media or by email. Here's why. First, referrals are very, very personal. When you refer someone, your reputation's on the line, isn't it? You must feel confident your contact will follow through and take care of your connection just as you would.
