- One of the foundations of productivity and efficiency is your health. Both your physical and emotional health have a strong, direct impact on your productivity. Setting up your office to promote a healthy body, that functions without pain or discomfort, is extremely important. Let's talk about how to properly position your body while working to reduce strain and pressure on muscles and joints. When sitting at your desk, your body should be in a natural, comfortable, relaxed posture. This means your back is straight, resting against the back of your chair. It should be vertical or with a slight lean back, up to 30 degrees. The shoulder should be relaxed, and the back of the chair should support the natural curve of the spine. A healthy back has an inward curve in the lumbar, or lower back, that should be supported as you work. Your head should remain vertical.
