- The length of time that you'll spend planning and preparing for an event will inevitably vary based on its scope. In some cases, you might spend a year or more working on something, and, in other cases, you may only need a month to get the job done. And, of course, sometimes you'll need six months, but you only have one. In any case, the two week mark is a good time for a final check-in with your team and yourself to make sure that planning is on track. At two weeks, you should have the major elements of your event: venue, catering, technology, guest list, and gifts locked in. You should also have at least a basic rundown and overview of any speakers or presentations that will be part of the event. Oftentimes, the actual presentation content isn't finalized until later, so if you don't have everything at two weeks, that's okay.
