- So we've talked about preparing the start, and that's really, really important. I think the second most important part of your talk is the finish. That's what they're left with after they leave the room, so the finish has to be good. So, what should be in the ideal finish? Well, first of all I don't think you should finish with just "So... any questions?" You shouldn't just sort of fizzle out. And some people I talk to sort of fizzle out and they go "Well, so that's it, really, "and I hope it wasn't too boring." By the way, never apologize, never apologize at the start of your talk, never apologize at the end of the talk, never say "I hope it wasn't "too boring," because people will think "Actually, yes, it was a bit boring, wasn't it?" And so just to let it sort of fizzle out, say "So there we are, that's, I think that's it, really, "any questions?" That's obviously no good. There has to be a "So there you have it" factor. I think of it as "So there you have it." So, for example…
