Tech Funding 101

- Have you ever watched Shark Tank? I love that show because it's entertaining and there's some important lessons to be learned about funding. A lot of businesses raise money from investors in order to grow. The investors put up the cash in exchange for equity, stock options, or an interest rate. Funding comes into play more in the world of tech than any other industry so you need to understand the unique tech funding process to best tailor your approach. Now there are normally three stages in which a tech company will seek investors. Those stages are referred to as rounds or series. You'll hear a company say we're focused on our series C pitch. A company's willingness to invest in you may be impacted by which stage of the funding process they're in and how much funding they're hoping to raise. Series A is the first stage.
