Set expectations
- The first step in building your performance management system is to help manage or set expectations for performance and behavior. Employees and managers must have mutual understanding of what's expected from each employee. A good place to start is ensuring your job descriptions are clear and accurate. I've got a few videos in this library about creating them, so if you have don't have any at all or the ones you have are way out of date, I recommend watching them. The next place to turn for setting expectations is your organization's core values. Turn them into core competencies. A core competency is a group of knowledge, skills, and abilities that employees need to carry out their work effectively. It's the attributes a person needs to have in order to be successful in their role. Competencies are usually written out with a list of observable behaviors that might indicate the existence of that competency.
