For some reason, while people won't set up a planned meeting with you, they're often willing to meet if you "just happen to be in the neighborhood" on short notice. When traveling to a city, it's a great way to get meetings you haven't been able to get. You can also manufacture these situations by planning trips to a city. And even if they don't meet with you, they'll likely be open to a call or it will prompt them to remember they need something from you.
