Root-cause analysis Work-Out
- Here's the challenge: There is a problem. Management suspects that the problem can be easily solved if the right people are involved. Here's the assignment: Conduct a Root-cause analysis of the problem. How do you do this? Well, if the problem is complicated and extensive, data analysis is required, then management needs to launch a Lean Six Sigma DMAIC Project. However, if the root causes can be easily determined, or are quite obvious to people close to the problem, that is perfect for a Work-Out or Kaizen event. Don't forget to start planning at least three weeks before the event. Collect some preliminary data on the problem before you meet the champion to finalize the project charter for the Work-Out or Kaizen event. Make sure that a problem is a chronic problem, not a sporadic or one-off problem. State the problem statement in specific, measurable terms. This will help you formulate the agenda.
