- What, ultimately, are we hoping to accomplish with all of this effort in your small business? Now I've talked about taking your business to a medium sized business, but, truthfully, that's a little too limiting. Perhaps you don't want to grow your business in terms of sales, but you want other things. You want a lifestyle from your business. That's why I encourage you think think about your business in terms of maturity. When you first started your business it was in its infancy, and then when the more you work on it it becomes a young business. Your goal should be to take it to the point of maturity. What is a mature business? What are its characteristics? First, it's stable. This means that we don't see wild fluctuations in cash flow month in, month out, but we see slow, steady, consistent, growth. We can measure or predict how the business is going to grow.
